Survey of experts: Will robots replace employees in industry?

Experts answered the question: To what extent will robots replace manual workers in industry?

Andrej Lasz, general secretary of the Association of Industrial Unions and Transport:

Robotisation is already happening and in the coming years this trend will only grow. Robots are gradually taking over monotonous and physically demanding tasks, thereby helping companies cope with the shortage of workers, caused also by the fact that approximately 25,000 people leave the labour market every year. It is expected that by 2040 automation in the EU may affect 12 million jobs, but at the same time demographics will cause a loss of up to 30 million employees. This shows that robotisation will not mean a shortage of work, but on the contrary, will help fill the emerging gaps. Instead of fears of „replacement“ we should see opportunities – robots bring new positions, for example in programming or service, and automation overall increases production efficiency. At the same time it opens doors for employees to better-paid and more qualified positions. Robotisation is therefore not a threat, but a natural evolution that helps industry face the challenges of today and creates new, attractive job opportunities.
