The economic blunder of the year? See what employers and analysts criticise the government for

Consolidation in real time: Which government measures will harm us the most? We asked the key voices of the Slovak economy how they assess the cabinet's steps over the past months.

The year 2025 was marked by consolidation packages, changes in the tax system and the search for recipes to heal public finances. Which government steps, however, do experts consider the biggest blunder, and where do they see the greatest risks for the Slovak economy? We asked analysts and representatives of employers what they perceive as the black mark of this year.

The experts answered the following questions:

1. Which economic measure adopted by the government do you consider the worst this year?
2. Can you explain what negative impacts this measure will have?

Andrej Lasz, Secretary General of the Association of Industrial Unions and Transport:

1. – 2. We consider the continued increase in taxes and contributions to be the worst measures in the economic area. The burden on labour has been increasing over the long term – one year contributions are increased for companies, the next year for employees. This makes production more expensive to such an extent that companies are gradually losing the ability to win international tenders for orders.

Production in Slovakia is becoming too expensive. Increasing taxes and contributions also slows down the economy, which ultimately brings the state less revenue than might be expected. The state should look for resources elsewhere, especially in savings and more efficient functioning.
