The year 2025 brought a series of legislative changes to the Slovak economy that sparked heated discussions among experts and the public. Finding positives in a year full of consolidation packages is not an easy task. Nevertheless, several changes appeared in the economic calendar that, according to experts, deserve praise.
The experts answered the following questions:
- Which economic measure adopted by the government do you consider the best this year?
- Can you explain what positive impacts this measure will have?
Andrej Lasz, Secretary General of the Association of Industrial Unions and Transport:
1. – 2. We consider the steps in the area of education to be the best measures. We see a meaningful reform pressure there and an effort to move the education system in the right direction. Whether it is the introduction of a two-level school-leaving exam in mathematics, the effort to reduce the number of schools that are chronically half-empty, or the effort to increase quality in both secondary and higher education.
We also view positively the scholarships for students in fields with shortages and the performance contracts for universities. These are measures that do not bring an immediate effect, but gradually create better conditions for preparing quality experts for the economy. It is precisely such people who are lacking in the labour market today, and without them the further development of the economy cannot be achieved.
