Joint appeal by the social partners to members of parliament and the President of the Slovak Republi

The social partners, who are part of the Economic and Social Council of the Slovak Republic (the tripartite body), are calling on members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic to stop the legislative chaos.

At the current session of parliament, members will once again decide on further draft laws with a fundamentally negative impact on the business environment, employees and Slovak households. The social partners also point out that almost a quarter of all laws passed into force during this electoral term went through outside the standard legislative process, which is the most in Slovakia's history to date. They consider the current situation unsustainable and demand that it be rectified.

Employers associated in the National Union of Employers (RÚZ), the Association of Employers' Unions and Associations of the Slovak Republic (AZZZ) and the Association of Industrial Unions and Transport (APZD), members of the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia (ZMOS), and employee representatives associated in the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic (KOZ SR), are publicly calling on members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the President of the Slovak Republic to stop the circumvention of the proper legislative process and the adoption of draft laws harmful to our country.

Despite the fact that several of the proposed measures bear the hallmarks of unconstitutionality, are in conflict with European Union (EU) law, and will mean further fundamental cost increases for companies and households during the inflation and energy crisis – once again, no one discussed the quantification of their impacts, benefits or risks with the social partners. In practice, fewer than forty members of parliament are even enough to approve them. The social partners consider such conduct unacceptable and describe it as irresponsible toward employers, employees and local governments.
