Employers and economists: The Green Deal is a problem, but EU money must be put to use.

The European Union faces a real threat of deindustrialisation with all the consequences for its future economic prosperity. The recovery plan is intended only for people with higher incomes. We must strive to ensure that nuclear energy is accepted and supported in the EU as one of the green solutions. This too was voiced in the Štandard survey, in which we asked employers and entrepreneurs about the issue of energy security and poverty.

In today’s survey we put the following question to respondents:

We are facing a threat to energy security, which also gives rise to a threat of energy poverty. How should Slovakia confront these threats?

Alexej Beljajev, President of APZD and ZSP SR, answers:

Slovakia’s advantage is that we get 60 percent of our energy from nuclear power. It is emission-free, which is why we must ensure that nuclear energy is accepted and supported in the EU as one of the green solutions. Moreover, it is relatively cheap. In the medium term we need to find a way to sell it to Slovak households and businesses at production cost and a reasonable margin, so that it does not become several times more expensive for us by passing through the exchange. European funds, which we often cannot draw down for other purposes, could be used for insulation, solar panels and heat pumps for businesses and households alike. This would contribute to reducing energy consumption and alleviating energy poverty.
